That's about the smoothest shovel operator I ever seen.
-
I used to look after 3 of these machines that belonged to Short Bros Ltd in South Wales, UK. they also had one Hitachi EX3600 face shovel. All working for Celtic Energy in open cast coal mines.
-
Thanks and yes that's blasted rock he's removing above the coal seam
-
Great video Justin, could watch that machine working all day, is that blasted rock it's moving?.
-
Nice video. That rascal seems to dig very well. Thanks.

Its painful seeing the Euclid logo on a foreign machine...and Detroit is owned by MTU, I miss the GM Euclid and the screaming 2 cycles Detroits, 71 series was rock solid in design!
-
Thanks

It depends on the job. There are pros and cons with both loaders and shovels. A loader offers higher mobility but doesn't have the breakout force to dig through hard rock like a shovel does. That's why a lot of times a dozer will assist a loader and keep pushing the shot down to the loader to loosen it. Loaders also can be more expensive to maintain (keep in mind tire prices). Shovels offer higher breakout force but at the same time, are less mobile.

I edited out the worst of the wind noises the best I could...and that took 5hrs of work. That's why I try never to film when it's windy
-
No probs. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the off-highway division of Detroit is owned by MTU. Maybe someone who knows more about the Detroit Diesel history will chim in.

-
Wow, what a beast. Nice video, but you need to do something about that wind noise. Thanks for posting, it's a nice machine.

Yep. A very reliable and well built machine, it helped make Hitachi a name for themselves in mining
