Machines | Helicopter Heavy Lift - Aerial Crane
videos | at work | information | view | construction
This video was originally filmed in June 2000 when I was working at Dreamworld Theme Park as a maintenance engineer. The Engineering department contracted pilot Scott Menzies owner and operator of Gold Coast Heli Tours to remove and replace the 800kg electric motor from the top of the Tower of Terror which stands 40 stories high. This particular electric motor operates the west side winch for the Giant Drop. This was the very first time the motor was replaced. I believe the lifting strategy is no longer performed in this manner due to OH&S procedural change.

Yup tower of terror :) stuff that.

@appy32 Hi Simon. Yeah it's a pretty cool ride. Would be much easier if it could do that. However, there is no way of getting it through the floor and the weight was too heavy for the catch car. Cheers, Aaron.

On eof my favourite rides. I'm surprised the original design didn't have provision to raise & lower heavy objects from the top of the tower.

Haha wow!!... I was on the edge of my seat when the motor was being lifted out, and snagged on the roofing above. Pretty extreme. Amazing how we used to get jobs done back in the day isn't it
