It's the age old question - how much is too much to pay when it comes to car repairs? Now, a group of angry customers have come forward claiming a mechanic not only overcharged them -- but also held them to ransom -- refusing to return their car.

if a guy quoted me 8000 did the work and wanted me to pay 23000 I would just take the car a give him nothing for taking the piss.

I could do the motor swap on that vehicle 4 under 2 Grand a reputable shop will always give you and have you sign a work order before they touch your vehicle or repair order as it's called in some places I never touched a vehicle unless I have the signature on that paper is specifies everything the customer is wanting done with the vehicle and the estimate with itemized fees when you're approaching the limit that you quoted them you must contact them and get their verbal authorization usually recorded or written authorization to proceed

Us mechanics really try to save money for the consumer in hopes of return business. Now sometimes you'll have a situation where someone brings a very old car and its really not worth the repair. For instance,a guy brought a 91 plymouth horizon to me this morning with a bad head gasket so I basically told him that he could replace the car for much less than the repair with a ten year younger car.

23grand is ridiculous, although it probably would have cost him half the cost of the car if he didn't get ripped off.

I'm confused, the mechanic can't hold the car (even if the client hasn't paid). He has no legal claim on that car- first call should have been to the police.

bes thing to do with people like this is search out every site on the internet where you can give a review for a company and get everyone who sees this video to put up fake horriable reviews and ruin the son of a bitch

I have one of these cars mine is a bit newer, at the moment i have a blown head gasket i have been to five or six places to get quotes I have asked them all for the worst case they all said around four and a half if the head needs to be replaced , We have been looking at other options like having the motor replaced with a changeover for that we are looking at over ten thousand , We also looked at having the car converted to the ls commodore v8 thats engineered at 18 to 21 thousand , regardless of what people say these cars that are clean with options are still going for about 18 to 35 some clowns even trying 40 thousand . I would love to know exactly what was being done to this car before i make a judgement on the mechanic .
