After the rice has been taken out of the plant, do the leftover stalks get used for anything?

so will new rice plants grow from the roots that remain in the ground after you chopped off the harvested stalks?

It's kinda like wheat. Short wheat with the grains all spaced out. But that field is tiny, like just a single acre or something. Is that a real farm? Farms in canada are all hundreds or even thousands of acres.
