Machines | Gold Mining-Oregon Trommel Operation 2013
videos | at work | information | view | construction
Back up and running! After fighting the county that shut us down for mining in the flood plain...we are OUT OF THE FLOOD PLAIN and back operating and getting gold. We have made our sluice box larger and added more jets for better water flow.

I would still put a carpet down in that water run off.

I've seen too many mining ridges to know that they are running way too hard and fast.
I would pay to have their gravel that they washed out.
the water is too fast and the catch mats are full... = wasting rock is still full of gold. -
I have read studies on those narrow type sluices with high gpm volume. They say it is better to run that way, what are your thoughts on fine recovery at that volume? I wish that they would allow me to run like that on my claim here in Oregon, but I am in the Nat Forest and do not think that they will allow anything like that. I had to settle for one of those mini trommels and feed by hand. My sluice is just the standard keene riffles in a 16" wide box, 190 gpm. Towards the bottom of the sluice the riffles get more turbulent as the water velocity has slowed down some. I read that is why you typically only find gold in the first few riffles. I have considered cutting out the lower riffles and welding in some lower profile ones instead. I am also thinking of adding a raised slick plate at the top of the box to be at the same height as the classifier, about 3' of slick plate. Thoughts?
