Machines | Former US Army Railroad Car is Unloaded From a Semi
videos | at work | information | view | construction
On July 1st 2008, the Silver Creek got a US Army flatcar to add to their collection. We see the skilled group of guys unload the car with no problem at all. This was a first for me! Filmed at the Silver Creek and Stephenson Railroad Museum, just South of Freeport IL.

Nice team work. But safety was an issue there if OSHA would see this, but lucky every work great as a team player and no one got hurt. Safety & team work what counts in this working area. Thanks for posting this video.

Oh man, the U.S Army probably hauled a bunch of weapons on those. Tanks, jeeps, howitzers, missiles, etc. So many of all kinds were shipped on those back then.

Ft. Eustis????
-
lol....what is so special about that flatcar????
-
Nice! Happy railroading!
-
Yea, smooth delivery for them. Wonder if they paid to replace that drivers mudflaps on his trailer.
-
I've got two questions I'm surprised nobody asked; 1)The length of the car? 2)The length of the flatbed being used to carry it?
-
why did the army sell it ?

The wheel bearings are of the old brass and cotton wadding, oilbath type. These types of bearing are not allowed to be operated on class 1 railroads.

Nice video. Nice flat car! How are the rails attached to the trailer? Would have been nice to see the car placed on the trailer. Pulled on by a winch? Why not push it off? Switch locomotive really needed?
-
are you guys restoring this car?
-
where do you buy somthing like this
-
Nice, but what I was going to say is you guys should hook up to a mainline and take that thing and show it off. XD
-
Yes, but the car was in need of much repair, and it was located a long ways away so they figured they would haul it in by truck so they could work on it rather than drive back an fourth to where the car was located so they could fix it up to ship it by rail. A guy from the club actually owns the semi.

Well, are they standard gauged track?

Interesting Video..

This is so IMPRESS video!
I hope so! That is it's true lineage.
This particular car is too small/light to have hauled any armor, it probably hauled crated material.
