Machines | Forestry mulcher on a CAT skid steer clearing our property
videos | at work | information | view | construction
A forestry mulcher on a CAT 299D skid steer clearing along the side of one of the fields on our farm. The unit does a fantastic job. All brush and trees are cleared down to ground level (removes stumps but not the roots) and all that remains are wood chips. The unit can clear an overgrown pasture, for instance, for site preparation to plant trees, or it can selectively clear trees in a forest to give you a park-like appearance or to allow the remaining trees to grow for lumber. Guajilo, I see that you said this was hired work. How did he go about pricing the job? How much land did you have cleared. Did he charge per acre/yard or go by hours? Did he state in advance what he could or couldn't remove with the forester attachment? What other equipment did he use and did you finish with a cleared lot? Thanks in advance for your response, I know it's a lot haha.

how does it do on vines?

does anyone know where I can rent one in Connecticut, cause I have a lot of uses for this type of equipment

Anyone know where I can rent one of these in Northern VA? Just bought 13 over grown and wooded acres and this thing would save me YEARS of clean up time.

was that a 299d xhp or just a 299d?

I'm looking to maybe do this on some old hayfields I own. I'm not sure if this is the best route or just use my 85 hp tractor to clear the trees and brush. I hate the idea of using my new cab Kubota in something like that, but I don't like the idea of spending thousands with this and still have to either use the tractor or rent a dozer to clear the remaining limbs and debris. Is it cost effective to do large areas this way and is it ideal to grow hay and be able to cut the hay the same year?

What mulching head is that?

I'm always impressed with how well these skid steer mounted units can maintain headspeed. Granted this is green wood/brush, but still, it's doing a great job, your doing good time....and it's more than just a mulcher.
