I want to take the liberty to side track from the main thrust of the video, and I hope someone learns something new. He mentioned something that caught my attention 4:06 into the video; UHMW. I'm commenting because this stuff really impressed me. It stands for Ultra High Molecular Weight. This material reminded me of nylon or teflon, though cutting and filing on this material is surprisingly difficult, comparatively speaking . I worked for a company that produced ceramic substrates. We used this material for pads in a track that the ceramic substrates passed down. The ceramic would wear out metal pads in no time; not so much the UHMW. The ceramic would eventually wear down the UHMW, but that is more a testament to the strength of ceramic as a material.

I love this guy; a combination of pure brilliance, common sense, mechanical inclination, lots of cool tools, and a semi-warped sense of humor : )

my 8345r John deer tractor. regulated my engine power due to hydraulic filter. I replaced it and it still does it. what is the problim?

Great! Now I have an idea why the container sidelifter I drive doesn't want to work propperly. About a year ago I had a chance to look over the shoulder of the mechanic changing some filters on the hydraulic. Haven't been changed in more than 5 years. Full of parts of the hoses – which were even older and were comming apart.
If those tiny "rocks" made your hydraulic not working propperly… the thousends or tenthousends of rubber particels in the system of "my" sidelifter must have clocked up most of the valves. And not only those rubber parts… nobody in my companys "repair" shop cleans anything before putting things together. There has to be a phantasillion of other particels in there!!!! -
Ave, you don't sound like your usual pithy self. hope all is well. I like all of your followers really enjoy your videos. we have all learned from you.

This is probably my favorite AvE video. Troubling shooting analysis with the detective work.

Is that a tile manufacturing plant?

heat is often the enemy
-
AvE... I've been watching your videos for about a month now and you're the fuckin Man.
Is the heat in leaking hydraulics caused by the fluid passing a resistance? If so, how come the business end wasn't hotter, where the fluid is working to spin that thing round and round?
Presumably this trick will work on any high pressure system? Fuel for example, or even air?
