Excavator Welding Project (Bucket Teeth Dental Surgery) of a Halla HE130 LCE Hydraulic Excavator. This video shows our mechanic building up the shanks for the teeth, which were worn down from continued heavy use. Our maintenance team laid numerous beads of weld and prepared the surface with a pneumatic grinder prior to re-installation of the teeth on the bucket. This video contains a lot of welding and was done by our in house team of maintenance professionals. Our staff are the best around, not only because they can run anything that moves, but because they can maintain and or repair our equipment if required as well. these 2 yahoos give us good fabricators a bad name. No gloves, no face shields. Not only concerned about safety but you do a much better quality job with those two simply items. Also why work in a mud hole??? Move the equipment a few ft to a dry area or put dn a pallet or pc of plywood...... Total hacks. Probably the low bidder..

Did a lot of this in the prison honor camp & out in the world good stuff...

A 7018 is a standard rod that can be used its a good choice from my past experience.
-
There are types of hardfacing rods specifically made for jobs like these. I wish buddy was wearing some gloves though that ultraviolet rays can be deadly.
-
Is there a standard welding rod that is used when dealing with heavy machinery like that?

The other way is to weld the tooth to the adaptor. They never come off and are easily replaced.I only do this if the adaptor is badly worn, too much heat will cause brittleness so stager the welding when you try this.

Thats one way to do it with Esco style teeth. The problem with the vertical pin teeth is those 3-nubbed rubber keepers in the shanks, when you start working in muddy water, burning stumps, or loading cobbly wet slurry gravels the pins fall out and you lose your teeth. Welding the pins in place works for a while then they crack anyhow. I own 4 buckets with these teeth and they just dont make the long haul. 2 of my buckets I arc-gouged the shanks off and went to teeth hammerless teeth problem over
