Was it line bored when that ear was welded?
-
6010 for first stringers then cap with 7018 or 309 l 16 does wonders
-
OMG, Daewoo? Disposable crap.
-
Would it have been better to chain the bucket closer to the ear?
-
with the same amount of passes you did you could have arc gouged it out and done an almost 100% penetration?
-
you don't come in hot you don't burn in weld youalso didn't clean off all the old weld I weld for living I clean off every ones welds because I don't trusts others welding flux core works better then stick

Awesome repair. One day after many more days of practice I would like to start a mobile welding repair business. Just wondering if you could state how hot you were running and what electrode(s) you used. Keep making vids.

The only way to fix that bucket right would be to Completely Build a New one, But that would cost as much as that old machine is worth. The way they cut that old bucket up and re eared it they destroyed it.
-
But did you pre/post heat?

man I have worked on junk for 10 years. I have seen this more times then I care to admit. we do the same thing but the small grinding is useless. we would "v" both sides and weld it up. if the welds are only on the sides it won't hold. you gotta take that old weld out and completely build it up from center out. after that we would go as far as to plate and gusset the sides. done the same with h-bar and dog bones. this really called for a hammer, not a old beat up bucket lol. either way nice to see I ain't the only one working with scrap metal.

I fail to see the issue with the job site, nice job on the welding but why so much complaining, that site is pure luxury compared with crap I get.
-
So, just fix it and shut up. Its a typical repair in the field.
-
no key? I would tell em f off
-
That is not going to pass an x-ray. Snerk. Not long for the world anyway.
-
I think you put into this job! more than most..considering all what's going down. wow. It should last...until it has long enough until they dump the whole thing! into the salvage bin.

Arc all that out, V it with a grinder, pre heat and put stringer beads in it. Make sure you get 100% penetration. 1/16" from a LN 25 would be faster.
