Machines | Dodds Diaries Episode 56 - Tyne Valley Line Diverts
videos | at work | information | view | construction
A day out full of fun and banter. At weekends around September/October time the East Coast Main Line around Berwick upon Tweed is closed for engineering works and so Virgin Trains East Coast services have to divert via the Tyne Valley Line and Carlisle before reaching Edinburgh. I had never done them before so I was gonna enjoy this day out. Journey starts at Chester-Le-Street and when I get to Newcastle I meet up with Andrew Todd and Thomas Pye. We travel to Carlisle on an Ex EMT HST set that had been refurbished but still had the hard seats and plug sockets that didn't work lol. Once we get to Carlisle we meet up with pretty much half of Facebook. I meet Metroman for the first time ever and other enthusiasts we met up were Ken, Caleb, another Alex, Liann, Bradley, Sean, Liam, Christine and a few more whos names I can't remember. Diverts were HST's and 225's that were dragged by a class 67. Normally I don't go to Carlisle on weekends due to lack of freight but there were some on this day so it was all good. After 4pm we all caught an HST back to Newcastle and I went on a TPE class 185 back to Chester-Le-Street. This was my first time doing window hanging but I never hang my head right out the window unless we were going walking pace. Date filmed 8/10/16

Hi Alex, great video. You actually spotted me at Dunston at 1:11:35 - the guy with the blue bag, and I was on my phone. On the day I saw lots of VTEC services diverted at MetroCentre and Dunston. Was surprised to see myself lol.

Cool video. I think VTEC also have a similar diversion line between Northallerton and Newcastle, going via Hartlepool and Sunderland.

Really nice shot at 6:58 - multi-bridge view!

What trains normally operate on the Tyne Valley Line? I hope not many Pacers, as I've yet to hear someone say a good word about them. lol
