Great video. I am doing the top end on my 85 and I just replaced a pump on my brothers 1980 scout with a 1983 6.9L diesel. I will get a ferret timing meter. Thanks for the tips.

Thank you Joe.
You are the only one I have found that really shows how to set the timing on these engines. You Rock! -
cant hear what youre saying

Hi joe
I have a 1993 ford f350 7.3l and would like to know if you know what the timing should be set at? Thanks -
mine is a chevy 6.5L but same principle nice touch on the turnbuckle! My meter can't be reading right or I don't know how to use it. No way it would run as well as it does at 17.2 degrees, and my pump marks are close, they should be 1/4-1/2" off to be that far advanced.

I'm using a Stanadyne time and trac. I didn't have the ground clamp on the injector line..maybe that will make a big difference? I am unsure about the trigger level and offset for the timing light? I was told to use 30% trigger, and 9.5 degree offset, at 1950rpm if my marks a correct on my balancer I get 17.2 degrees when I use the buttons on the timing light to line up the marks to zero on the scale. Which is way to far advanced? should I subtract 9.5 degrees from the reading? I'm confused?

Thanks for the help.Keep up the good work..

Neat!! Thanks for posting this. I am thinking of buying one of those Ferrets for my 6.2's, and a 5.7 and 4.3 Olds. I had always heard warnings not to try and move the pump with the engine running though. Where did you get the Ferret and about how much was it? At one time there were some on Ebay, but it has been a while since I saw one there. Thanks Larry
