Diesel and Heavy Equipment technicians repair and maintain diesel engines and transportation equipment such as heavy trucks, buses, boats and locomotives; construction equipment such as bulldozers, earth movers and cranes; farm equipment such as tractors and irrigation pumps. In addition, they are responsible for the maintenance and repair of a variety of other diesel powered equipment including generators, compressors and pumps used in industry. The program also includes instruction on drive trains, brakes, electrical, hydraulics and other related areas of trucks and construction equipment. Before making repairs, a Diesel and Heavy Equipment technician inspects and tests components to determine why a unit is not operating properly. After the cause of the trouble has been located, repairs or replacement of defective parts and necessary adjustments are made. Lean more at www.westerntc.edu
