We have been watching the progress of a construction site over the last month. When we went by it on this day there were numerous dump trucks unloading dirt and rocks. A bulldozer was flattening out the piles they left behind. There are also glimpses of a Road Roller with spikes compacting the dirt and rocks for a smoother surface and a quick look at a backhoe sitting off to the side. As a construction, worker, I hate seeing people not call machines right, but don't worry, I'm here to save the day lol. The roller you mentioned is what's called a Vibratory Padfoot roller or what we call a Sheep's Foot. You are right in what it does, it takes the loose soil and compacts its into a firmer harder surfaces. From what I can tell from your video they are spreading dirt over a building pad foundation where every layer of dirt needs to be compacted. But overall it seems you got the over vehicles pretty well names. The backhoe you mention although not wrong is usually called an excavator or track-hoe. We try to avoid the term backhoe since theres another machine out there called a Backhoe Loader or Backhoe for short. If you got more machine questions I'm happy to answer.
