Item: vintage stationary engine; for driving general farm machinery. Year: Circa. 1930 Make: Petter Model: S Horse power: 5 R.P.M: 725 Serial Number: 212859 Type of engine: 2 stroke semi-diesel, throttle governed, water cooled Thought I would just take a video of this unique engine which I bought off a mate of mine a few years ago. This engine is believed to have spent most of its working life in the Roma area in Queensland driving a 12 stand shearing stand in a woolshed; I believe my mate bought it in a job lot of engines. I asked him if he knew of any small S type Petter for sale and he did, so made a deal. It is a great engine, relatively easy to move around being the smallest of the 'S' series and starts easily. I only bought the engine which had been running; I fitted it to the transporter and cooling tank. The gas torch is used for heating the engine's head up prior to starting; it is like before glow plugs were invented - similar starting to procedure as that used on the Lanz Bulldog, HSCS and McDonald tractors etc. I prefer to crank start it rather than 'bump', as it usually ends up going backwards - being 2 stroke it can do that! Thanks for watching the vid!
