The internet is filled with people doing all sorts of crazy things, but in the video I am about to show you - it’s about as crazy as it can gets. The video was sent in by Peter Cornelis and Nelly H. It shows a group of soldiers goofing around with a chimpanze. It’s all pretty light hearted until one of the soldiers hands an automatic weapon to the Monkey… and then, you guessed it, the monkey starts shooting weapon. There is no information on whether anyone was hurt in this incident, but is this video real? Or, is this just some what internet monkey business from the weird side. That’s what Peter and Nelly want to know. On the surface, the video certainly looks real. As far as I can tell, the gun is real… and when the chimp fires it, you can even see mussle smoke which would be hard to fake. But where was this video taken, and who was behind the camera? It took some serious digging, but I did find a small article in a respected military publication - known as the Military Times. Not only were they aware of the details of the incident, but had the hard facts on who actually recorded it. Now what I have in my hand here is the official answer about this video, But before I open this up, there is a little business we need to take care… and if you don’t know what that is… let me explain it to you. what you need to do is yell out your answer first, either real or fake… Ok That way, you can’t change you mind later and try to claim you were right when you were wrong. So ok… ready… and go! Alright, did you do it. Good. Hopefully you were with your friends or family and didn’t wake anybody up. Im going to give you the official answer in just a second, but first, let;s go over what we have learned so far. The video comes to us via numerous youtube channels… The gun appears to be real and even shows smoke and recoil action when the chimp fires the gun. The Military Times wrote an excellent investigative report on the incident. And now, lets see what the official answer is… and I quote. The video showing a group of west african soldiers handing an automatic weapon to a chimpanzee has been examined… and determined to be… a fake… As it turns out, the military times reported they were not sure if the video was a hoax or not, but did point out one very interesting fact. In the lower left corner is a line of text that claims the video is the property of research department. A quick look into what that is all about, leads to the fact that this is truly a hoax. The video was created by 2 as part of an advertising campaign to promote a movie their movie The video got millions of views and did a good job at promoting the movie, but it was heavily criticized for presenting such a stereotypical view of African Soldiers- even if they were just actors. It also started a debate on whether chimps would know what to do with an weapon if they got their hands on one. Ok, that’s it for this edition of real or fake. I want to thank Peter and Nelly for sending in this video. I’m going to leave a link to the original video in the description box - And hey, if you have a picture or video that you aren’t sure if it is real or not, send it over to me at
