First 30 secs educate, than WHAM - delivers an 4 year degree on a D9L - at least for this novice - thanks!!!

Nice video! Most people don't know that the D9L became the D10N.
-
Thank you for another fine documentary Keep them coming

D9L beautiful machine

Great video!!! I have watched ALL your videos probably 10+ times.... These D9L's were absolute BEASTS and one of the most powerful 9s ever produced. Id take the 9: over any D10N... The entire N series were let downs in my opinion and dont make a pimple on the butt of the L's. Glad that some of these are still in service pushing along today. Will be a shame when they are all gone......

Only reason for high track is because they couldn't keep water out of there finial drives. Now you have 3 points of wear.
-
great vid...too bad you couldn't fire it up

I was lucky enough to get a new D9L around 84 or so. Man, did those tractors ride good compared to the flat track solid roller frame dozers! Shouldn't be compared to a D9H, much bigger. But, they had their issues. The first design High Track Caterpillars wouldn't climb slopes well. They were short overall for their size which was touted as very good for working tight places. But, the tracks simply wouldn't support them well on steep climbs. Going forward wasn't as bad as going backwards. They were, I hate to say it, helpless trying to back up a steep slope. I done a lot of drill bench work and had to be very cautious about that. The later D10N, D11N and so forth had the extended tracks which helped. Still won't climb as well as the old flat track tractors.

Looks like you hit a honey hole of equipment. Let's keep these videos coming. I have literally watched every one you have made.

another great walk around,,, how old is this one,,, waiting for more work,,, or the scrap man,,,
-
Awsome video. Still on use?

You do an excellent job with these documentaries. Where do you get all your info? If you are freewheeling it while making these, that is a boatload of data to remember for each machine alone, leave aside all of them.

I had 3 of these, great dozer. That 3412 engine has a sweet sound
-
As always your videos are very informative. Funny even though Caterpillar has been making those high drive sprocket tractors for over 30 years I still think they look strange.
-
Great documentary! It is a shame that the old girl is just sitting there rusting away.

Thanks Justin, much appreciated.
