I was an Instructor for the Operating Engineers before I retired in 2013. We bought a CAT 140M series to have the members experience something out of there comfort zone. Before expose it to them, I had to try it myself. It wasn't easy. Working out on the field then, The companies I've worked with had either the 12E, 12F,140G, and the140H. We've never had anything of this type of grader on my watch. IT TOOK ME ABOUT TWO FREAKING WEEKS TO LEARN THIS DAM GRADER! Like they say, never give up! Learning this new type was well worth it. What I found out about this grader is that, You need to Adjust the seat. The back of your seat has to be straight up. The same position as the earlier graders. The M-SERIES grader is to layed back and you can't feel the levers in that position. Bring it straight up. you'll feel a big difference.

I've been operating for 35 years, 20 of which have been on cat graders, the last 2 years have been on a 140M. I have come to the conclusion that these new graders are designed for those who have never run a blade before, because those of us who have spent years "feeling" our machine are shit out of luck with the M series. Elec. over Hyd. controls remove all feeling of the blade. These new blades are set up for GPS,UTS, etc. electronics where no "freehand" or operator experience is required. I've always been a CAT man, but I'm disappointed in this change.....................

Isso é coisa boa

No sir, I dont like these controls at all, especially the steering. Too damn dangerous at higher speeds. Bring back the steering whell, I could live with the other crap.

Not a bad idea....

I have a great idea for an even bigger grader, the CAT 26a HTT - Half-Track Technology, taking the track systems from agricultural machines like the combines and tractors and replace the rear wheels with tracks to create a bigger grader for the mining industry that could grade a whole road with a larger blade than the 24M without making a second pass! Imagine a powerful half track grader working in wet conditions? Would easily charge up a haul road without a single wheelspin!

I've run Cat, New Holland, Volvo, Champion, graders, The AWD M2 is easier to run, but you still earn your pay. All in All I would still prefer The Volvo grader.

Facinating controlls, look tricky, allways wondered how graders were operated! Maybe they should feature that in the next series of earthmovers dvds by old pond publishing!
