Finals in a 983 are similar to a D7

Love the Kelly Ripper on the back

Komatsu made the largest with their D155S. About 46tons with a 6 yard bucket on it. 275hp or something like that, one big machine to be sure. I last saw a Cat 977 maybe around 10 or so years ago working for a demolition firm which is probably no longer in business. The demise of the crawler loader as a production loading machine were numbered as soon as excavators stopped being your basic trench digger and took on other tasks.

Okay - this beast is cool !!! I haven't seen one of these in action in a loooong time. Do they still make crawler loaders big like this? And who makes the biggest one?
-
Thats awesome, I also like that cheetah skin seat he has on the '83 lol
-
I agree about the Kelly ripper, I was wondering why they are not around anymore, I always thought they had some sort of style to them. The one on our D9g had a six foot shank.

I think people get the 8 in the model number mixed up with any D8 relations beetween the 2 machines, engine in the track loader is a D343, the D8 sports a D342. Not sure about finals and U/C but there is probably a couple of things common but at the end of the day the most common thing is it's yellow and burns diesel.

A real Beauty ! Great Sound. (983) ...better than the Big Komatsu
-
What ever happened to those Kelly rippers they were the business in the sixties and seventies but you don't see them now.
-
yes you are right, but the track frames are a little longer for stability.
-
actually its,s based on the D8H it has the same motor, finals and undercarriage components.
-
Thats a pretty low bucket volume to weight ratio... I suppose they were primarily meant as dozers and could load a truck if needed... articulated wheeled loaders are much cheaper to load trucks with, all the turning and twisting wears the tracks out...
-
never seen a 983 with a 4 in 1, have seen one with a rock bucket, unusual ripper not paralleogram, is the ripper retro fitted?
-
This 983 is 275hp with a 4.5yard bucket and weighs about 78,000lbs.
-
remember 983 at scunthorpe steel works just like this with no cab but painted in red.
