these things were the go, then excavators came on the scene, now you don't see too many track loaders about
-
no wonder they sell so many excavators..
-
if they had triaxles they could hold another scoop

Great Machine but Horses for courses nowadays, the 973 will weigh around 20- 25 ton so a lot of weight to motivate when travelling back n forth hence fuel usage will be hefty + all the Track wear and the inconvenience of less precision loading compared to a Excavator which stands still hence little track wear and only has to swing the upper structure (around 10 ton) and the upper structure is on a lubricated bearing hence creating far less resistance to the Track Shoes of a Track Shovel having to climb over soft ground, when using a n Excavator the visability is far better when you are looking iinto the bucket and can see what is being loaded hence giving chance to avoid foreign matter. Nowadays Track Shovels are for Formation work where some loading is required

Nice machine. They do have a better push into the pile than a wheeled loader.
It's very rare to see these working in the Uk these days..we seem to use 360 excavators for everything whereas a 'Drott' (as they were commonly known here) is only used on Landfill sites where stability and LGP are essential.
Interesting to note the different terminology for machinery across the world..in the Uk those trucks would simply be known as 'Six wheelers' whereas 'tandems' would have only been used to describe tandem trailers - but that was only when they were current, about the early 80's.
Enjoyed your video. -

a very nice machine id like to operate my selfe!! :) we got still the B version at our 953 :D
-
Definately overloading the trucks
-
Flat ground, loose material, why not use a wheel loader? Much faster and NO WEAR on an undercarriage.....
-
seems to be not the biggest bucket - why haven't we a comparison between girl's and man's bucket here ? ;-)
-
Buckets not consistent.traveling too far.
-
I'll take a job! what's a operator make in your area? guessing your in Wyoming?
-
Strange seeing dump trucks with out the canopy over the cab, in Nova Scotia you hardly see tandems like that.
-
Must spend a lot of your profit on undercarridges.
-
We got this exact model at our local landfill site with a 4 in 1 bucket, very versatile machine and comes in handy for towing out trucks that get stuck in the mud in there. I would love one at home to play with!!!

Newer D model Cat and K model Deere's do have hand controls for steering as an option. But as any real track loader operator can tell you Scott, foot pedals are the way to go for steering.

It's nice being able to see into the trucks your loading. Plus this was my pace all day. 1 truck on a 7-8 minute cycle. I needed some way to amuse myself. Eventually even porn on an iPhone gets boring.

You're probably looking a the sensor for the auto leveler on the top cylinder?
-
What's wrong with the boom cylinder on the one side of the loader arm? Looks like there is a piece sticking up like it's broken or loose or something.
-
Wow!!! Oh man that is the neatest thing I've ever seen in my "hole" life. I am so glad you made this video. Wholey crap!!
