I'm sorry but this is a bad idea to do this in your back yard without any measuring tools to check clearances because if you have to beat a cylinder up that bad putting it back together you need to go back to working on that old VW in the background.

For the piston nut. I use impact wrench to take it out it easier that way

only one issue with your video, you did not show how to install the nylon sleeve inside the cap below sweep, which is the most frustrating part of the rebuild.

How easy did the V-Seals slide past the threads on the inside of the cylinder?

them wallered out holes are the result of using a drift and hammer to spin the nut out i bet

I have never rebuilt a cylinder but I recently bought a Case 580K so I guess I will have to eventually when they get bad. I appreciate this video a lot, you did a great job with it. Most how to/DIY videos I watch the guys are in love with hearing themselves talk and make a 20 minute video for a 1 minute procedure. This was a 20 minute video worth watching. Thank you and now to Amazon to get a gland nut wrench and a o-ring pick

Nice video. One of the best I've seen yet. Looks like a major pain, too bad it had to rain. Thankfully I only have to do the stabilizers and swing cylinders as my boom and bucket already replaced, but then that's still 4 cylinders :-(. Yet to start but getting educated first and your video taught me a few things. Another video mentioned near boiling water and soaking the stout nylon type seals to aid in insertion. My problem is all my pins seem to be mushroomed/cemented and considering having to carefully burn them out with a broco. Looks like the 1988 stabilizers/swings have never been repacked if that's even possible.

The one thing I really appreciated about your video is that you did the job in your backyard using backyard tools and not in a shop setting. I would think that most of us watching this video are watching because we will be in that same setting. I also appreciated your naming the parts and slowly at a time, disassembled your ram in a way that shows it can be done by someone who hasn't done it before. Good job. My particular issue was finding a tool to take off the Gland Nut (which I didn't know the name) So I bought a spanner wrench and couldn't get it off. Now I know what tool to get and can do my repair more properly. I also like the way you mentioned about the O ring at the end of the cylinder (maybe the dust ring) having a flat edge and reminding which direction the flat side goes to. Such a simple thing could make a job not work out so good.
