It appears there are 2 persons at the blasting area just before the explosion at 4:26 the one form appears to be walking just before the blast occurs. Thoughts anyone??

This is what built America. Seems like lame technology, but we wouldn't have what we do now, if not for that.
-
5 cubic yards.....as if it is impressive. Farm tractors can do that now. Tar, when we weld now...

The guy held up the STOP BLASTING sign, and the mf blasted anyway ;)

"A firm knot, out of focus, tied to his safety, belt holds him fast."

This is a well made film, however not from the 1950's. It was filmed in the late 1930's. It's amazing to me that hardly any of the work crew were wearing hard hats, LOL.......

The Hollywood freeway extension built to the San Fernando Valley. You can see the Mullholland bridge. An Amazing time. When Americans were fit and work was hard.
-
This is not from the 1950's. Looks like probably 1930's and most likely these were Works Progress Administration workers.

It's just amazing to contrast modern day Health & Safety standards with how things were done back then. 2:20 onwards shows little regard for safety by anyone's standards, in my opinion. Driving a 3/4 inch metal bar into soil and using that as an anchor to allow a man to descend a steep slope like that? Or working one of those huge pneumatic hammer/drills without any ear/eye/face protection? You would not see that these days. Then again, I think it was the fear of litigation that encouraged a lot of modern safety standards in the first place. Those men back then worked amazingly difficult and tough days. They have my full respect.

And this is how to make a beautiful and quiet place into the usual car traffic hell.. hmm.
-
Actually there were three men standing there.
-
This was actually filmed in the 1930's not the 1950's. Great film though. These guys were tough!
-
Osha would not be amused.
-
4:28, how did that happen?
-
Ok...after about the twentieth time of frame by frame...I believe the frame was cut and spliced right in that spot. There are actually three men but then as soon as the explosion starts you can see the same men appear on the left side of the frame. Thank God no one was killed. At least I think!!!
-
Yes...I saw it too. So I stopped and played it over and over frame by frame. There are two and then two more off to the left of the frame. I wonder how this film made it to production with that kind of human error...holy cow!!!

lol that wasnt a man you dumb ass! Was a mountain goat you need glasses!
