This is a scenario I had to diagnose a while back and figured I would share. This is a 2004 Bobcat MT52 compact track loader with roughly 700 hours of run time. The machine had this issue where it all of the sudden would not start on it's own. However if jumped with another machine it would start right up. The unit also would not shut off with the key. This video shows the voltage drop when the key was turned to the on and start positions. No blown fuses, all of the relays were good, battery disconnected from the machine reads 12.6v. I asked the operator what had been done differently in the last week and he explained that he had an issue where the machine would not start (due to loose battery cables) and he decided to tap on the starter with a shovel to get it to crank. In the process he somehow managed to whack the fuel timer which receives power while the key is in the run and start positions but dumps 12v for roughly 10 seconds to the shutoff solenoid to kill the engine. Upon whacking it an internal short was created causing this very issue. Upon unplugging the timer from the machine I turned the key and the machine fired right up! No weird voltage drop, everything working as normal. So this was as simple as replacing a small fuel timer which happens to be a $200 part from Bobcat. Hopefully you found this information helpful in my wildly unique symptoms.
