I checked with about 5 different fire departments, they all said they didn't have any. A few of them asked what I plan to use the hose for and when I told them, they said that was a good idea, but unfortunately they don't have anything available.
I guess you have to be lucky to live in a good area for this.
I did check and you can buy firehose online but even if you buy old and torn "scrap hose" in the end it's still gonna cost about as much as an "official" battle rope. -

I got some from my local fire department, the red plastic looking type. it didn't look like the one on this video, how do I get around that?

I suggested this to two friends who followed the instructions of Buff Dad and got themselves some prime battle ropes courtesy of their fire department. Great idea Buff Dad.....

I know this video is kinda old, but I think a regular garden hose could work as well if you can't get any hose from the fire department. use some tape on the ends for grip and it should work fine when cut to length.
