See a 1982 vintage Barth K140 agricultural land drainage machine still being used commercially in September 2009 at Clarkes Field, Acton, Sudbury, Suffolk. The machine is installing 100mm perforated plastic pipe on the go at a depth of 1400 - 1500mm in a trench 150mm wide. Soil type is heavy compacted clay with a number of large flint nodules up to the size of a rugby ball, chain & blade wear is rapid & drive train is working at its' upper limit. Backfill used is cocle shell from Lea On Sea, near Southend On Sea. Drainage grades are obtained using a theodolite to set up the grade marked out with ranging poles to visually execute the grade cut of the trench.
