Please support us at Patreon.com ! https://www.patreon.com/LearnEngineering The operation of an automatic transmission is explained here with help of animation. Allison-1000 transmission model, which has 6 speed and reverse is used for this purpose. The video starts with an explanation of planetary gear set. Just by engaging few clutch packs different output speed can be achieved in automatic transmission. A brief introduction of the torque converter is also given here. Here is the 2D version of the video. In my opinion this video is more helpful than the 3D video to understand the technology. https://youtu.be/Ugao6jTyM7k Like us on FB : https://www.facebook.com/LearnEngineering Voice-over artist :https://www.fiverr.com/mikepaine

"Just apply C4", hmm when we applied that stuff in the army, everything started rotating in the air.

Instructions not clear. Dick caught in ring gear. Help
-
Mind Blown!
-
How do clutches engage automatically according to the speed or the torque needed? ??????
-
Ok, I have worked on cars as hobby all my life and hoped this would explain to my how automatics work. After watching this, I am still convinced that automatics work from pixie dust, wizard poo, and unicorn pee.
-
it lacks a simple explanation.
-
I just wanted to know what's the sensor in this input change any simple way??
-
Clear as mud to me!
-
This shit is fucking rocket science!!!
-
I love the engineering of this but I HATE driving automatics. Like if I could just get an automatic transmission to put holes in the casing and appreciate watching the gears turn and seeing the shifting, I'd do that.
-
How does a drive transmission on work
-
raise your hand if you don't know what the fuck is happening
-
Makes sense.
-
I'm made the narrator says it is clear about applying the first clutch pack to achieve blah blah blah if I knew about transmissions I wouldn't be watching this lol
-
AAAARRGHH!!!
-
thanks

Can someone explain to be how the fluids are passed through it inorder for it to apply pressure to a clutch plate? And why do the clutch plates sometimes slip when the car is cold? Is it because the fluid is cold and takes longer to apply pressure?
-
I understood the manual transmission layout, but automatic? Forget about it. 0.o

After watching this video, I don't even want to think about watching the "CVT" one next...

Damn look at the engine size at 12 seconds, what is that, 150cc V8?
