This is why you call all utilities for underground locates. Even when locates are done, you still need to be careful as they're sometimes off. He's lucky he didn't hit optical wires, those cost a fortune and have sent companies into bankrupcy.

In this case, let the bucket melt, and send the bill for the repair to the locate company, their insurance should cover it too under the same claim to the power company. The guy running the camera is right, don't risk your life to save an insurance company a few bucks.

Yes locates were called and marked and there marks were off by 6 feet

and most of the time they know, but not allways. Very lucky that nobody was on the backhoe or near that line-they would have been cooked well done very quickly
