Machines | Amish 6 Horse Hitch Picking Ear Corn
videos | at work | information | view | construction
This is the old school method for harvesting corn. Most modern farmers use a 12 row corn eating machine called a combine and shell the corn as they go. I have lots of ERTL toys for sale on Ebay. http://stores.ebay.com/Illinois-Country-Treasures?_rdc=1 Check out my blog at http://bluegrassgreenandamish.blogspot.com/ Join me on Google+ https://plus.google.com/+ErnestBontrager/posts For more videos please subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6StFmjPYrCXo5Xg_TFVvhA?view_as=public

That's why Corn rows were 40" wide, so draft horse's could go down the row without knocking down the plants when cultivating.

How does this work? Do they use any type of power like battery or something?

Thanks for sharing Ernie. I believe in some Old Order Amish districts corn is still picked by hand. I do believe the operation you show Ernie is in a more "liberal" Old Order Amish district because of the rubber tired forecarts and also the rubber tired wagons and corn picker. I believe this video was filmed near Arthur, Illinois. Again thanks for this glimpse into the corn harvest in Illinois.
