Machines | 7 Days, 50 Men, 2 Cranes, One Army Truck and 2 Low Loaders to get out of the Poo
videos | at work | information | view | construction
A massive and very dramatic rescue lasting seven days to recover a Lane group Jet Vac Lorry after it fell through a bridge in Funtley near Fareham concluded today. A 50ft crane was brought in on Friday to free the stranded lorry but the work space was too restrictive. Shortly after 9 a.m this morning Ninety homes and business had power restricted to there premises for five hours whilst specialist and a new crane worked closely to overhead high voltage power cables. A total of Fifty People worked on safely recovering the Lorry despite the rain and wind lashing down from 7am this morning. The crane laden with 40 tonnes of ballast swung its boom across the River Meon 50 foot in the air with heavy duty strops in attempt to free the trapped 32 tonne lorry. Shortly after 5pm the lorry was driven away on the back of a low loader to a Heathrow location to be checked for internal damage and repairs. We were granted exclusive access to the site to follow the delicate operation and this is what we saw.

Anyone guess how much this cost the company ?
-
a one ton wrecker and a couple of bottle jacks would be faster than setting up that miserable crane

1 american = 100 brits
-
wake me when they get it unstuck haha
-
looked like they paid 43 of the workers to stand around with their hands in their pockets....didnt see the army truck either
-
In America, this would have been done in an hour with an F-350.

Union labor at its best...
50 men and lot of equipment to do a job in a week that could be done by 3 tow trucks and 3 smart drivers +3 more guys (to watch for safety and coordinate the pull) in just a few hours. -
Why use a crane when some 6x6 blocks and 2 bottle jacks would let you lift from under the wheels. Once you have it back level with the bridge slide in steel plates to let a tow truck pull it to solid ground. Might need concrete blocks in the water to keep them from washing away but a tower of 6x6 wood would let you build a platform right under the wheels to set the jacks.

If they'd got the ex army Foden Recovery down there in the first place, its fitted with a rear spade and serious winch, a good operator and a good tug would have seen it done. This was a battlefield capable recovery truck, how do I know? I trialled them for the MoD before the Army got them. One of the tests was to drag a dead Challenger MBT across country, scariest thing wasn't gradually pulling away with 14 gears, it was trying to stop with 70 tons dead weight up behind.

I can only imagine the cost of all that equipment and manpower...
-
just lift it out you dont need 50 peoples for that
