5 Ways You Could Damage Your CVT Vehicle 5 Things You Should Never Do Playlist - https://goo.gl/ZgfYOi Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 Understanding the do's and don'ts of a CVT transmission requires understanding how the transmission works. There are two common types on the market, including traditional CVTs with torque converters, as well as eCVTs such as that used on the Lexus CT200h in this video. Some practices to avoid include putting the car in neutral when coming to a stop, holding yourself on a hill using throttle (if the system is clutch based), coasting in neutral, neutral dropping the vehicle for a launch, changing directions (from D to R) while the vehicle is still moving, and inching forward (if the system is clutch based). As someone who doesn't drive, why do everyone hate CVTs?
-
What about down shifting in a CVT to slow down your car? Is that harmful to my vehicle?
-
that closed course though

The first and foremost thing you should never do in a CVT is ... expect reliability and great mileage. In theory, CVT's are perfect transmissions but in practical day-to-day operations, they tend to break way easier and earlier than any classic planetary auto or manual. Granted, dual-clutch transmissions fail often, too but up to this day, no manufacturer has managed to put a CVT in a car that rivals manuals or classic autos in terms of reliability. So if you plan on getting a CVT, enjoy it while it lasts and put some 10k aside for the almost inevitable transmission replacement.
I'd be glad if Toyota/Lexus could prove me wrong, though - that inline Hybrid CVT surely is a fascinating concept. -
Is it harmful to the car to engine brake with paddle shifters in a Subaru cvt transmission? Or while going down a long hill would I be better off engine braking or using the brake?
-
you forgot the most important ! never buy one with cvt
-
first time I drove a CVT car I thought it was in some kind of performance mode since I never felt a shift... :/
-
I have a torque converter on my gokart and it's cool how it works
-
I despise CVT transmissions.. they are incredibly slow to respond and makes ever car slower.
-
So can you set, let's say, 6 distinct position for the pulley rather than a continues curve, and simulate a 6 speed AT or even MT?
-
Number 1 drive it

my dealer said never change out fluid in cvt transmission for it sealed for life of car
for no clutch pack to wear theirfour no fluid will be denegraded -
There's one thing that many people do with automatics that I don't think you should do. That is, when parking on a steep grade you really should apply the barking brake prior to putting the car in neutral. Otherwise all the weight of the car is on the transmission gears. Am I right?

Great videos! How do I know what kind of CVT I have? I have a 2013 Accord LX. The public-facing manufacturer page doesn't seem to specify it. Thanks!

The gas will turn into electric power
-
the most impressive thing about this vid. is seeing him write in mirror style for us.

2012 Nissan Altima, 3.5SR, complete CVT trans failure at 70,000 miles; I'll never buy a car with a CVT transmission again!
-
1. never buy one.
2. see #1
It may not be original but it's still the truth. -
Great video. Wear a white shirt next time and you'd look more cool.

We have a CT200h and the reason that the dry erase markers don't work as well on the front windows is because there is a water repellant coating on the front side windows (but not on the rear).
