Hey @donyboy73 I have a MTD yard machine that I just swapped out the worm gear like you just did, but my auger has 4 separate blades with spacers. Does it matter how I assemble them back on the bar, or as long as the align with the pin holes and spin without complications, it is fine?

Dony: Can you please tell me the model number of the Noma blower that you worked on? I am also very interested in what the part number of the two oil seals are on the auger shaft, diameter = .75" and the oil seal brass casing = .118" diameter, where the brass gear attaches to. I have a Poulan blower model 96194000200 that uses an aluminum gear box that looks identical to the one on the Noma. The problem I am having is that I have ordered the oil seals for my Poulan part number 583293301 from 3 different online stores and they all have come back and said this oil seal is no longer being made. I am hoping that the seals on the Noma are identical to the seals on the Poulan. Thanks for any help you can give me and thanks so much for your well done videos!!

The little half moon shaped item is a woodruff KEY that fits into a 'keyway' Kind of small correction but say what you mean please.
-
A fully threaded shear bolt for application mounted on a axle is bad business. Is it the actual OEM-part?
-
Just to correct you on your use of keyway, what you are calling a keyway is actually a key (woodruff key in this instance). The keyways are the slots cut into the shafts, gear cog and pulley.
I regularly hear people wrongly calling keys keyways so it seems to be a common mistake. -
Terrific work! I've been working on an MTD snowthrower that had a cracked auger gear box, and after removing the auger assembly from the overall thrower box, I found four thin, large washers, slightly greased, on the floor. Any ideas? : ) I also have two bushings -- identical. They don't seem to fit anywhere. Ho-hum. Any help would be appreciated!
-
very funny question so should you be able to hold the augers and the impeller freely spins? Mine did that before now it doesn't could it need more grease? I didn't refill it since it seemed okay and the gear was actually fine. It's a 1998-1999 5/22 Craftsman low use 1-2 times per year. It spins as little as it did in the beginning of this video. The first part helped me take it apart.
-
yup, so I figured this out last night after some trial/error. The bushings are mostly round with a flat side that has to line up with the gear case ends when they are pounded in. If not lined up it will tighten and look correct but causes the impeller to not turn easily. This was masked by the fact that I had to clean the grease off to see this. Works great now. Thanks!
-
you mean the gear box?
-
Thanks for the great video. I installed a new impeller and the shaft turns fine until I tighten down the screws... it moves very smoothly when the screws are lose but takes a lot of effort to turn after they are tightened down. Is this normal? Just don't want to get back together and have to take apart again. Thanks!

@zigZag776 thanks, lol
-
@redbarn713 thanks very much!

@donyboy73 I paid 30$ for it, it has an 8HP tecumseh that runs awesome, simply could not pass it up. I know a guy who can get me a used gearbox assembly, for dirt cheap or free. Still the engine was way worth it.
