( http://www.TFLtruck.com ) 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is here and is ready to take on the Ike Gauntlet Extreme towing test. The 3.0L turbocharged diesel V6 engine makes 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. It's got the low-end torque, but not a lot of horsepower. Can the EcoDiesel keep the fast pace set by the F-150 2.7L EcoBoost? Which truck will get better MPGs? The Ike Gauntlet is a timed run up one of America's steepest highways from 9,000 feet above sea level to the top of the mountain at entrance to the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado. ram 1500 eco diesel sucks

Not to forget the vechicle is the 2WD and not the 4WD which is a bit heavier. Might that be a big difference if doing the test with the 4WD capable vechicle in MPG???
PLEASE please do the MPG towing test with the Ram Eco Diesel HFH (maybe) ( 5600 lbs trailer on 100 mile loop)! Thanks! you guys are amazing! -
I have a 2016 Ram EcoDiesel BigHorn 4x4 CrewCab. I tow about once a month my 16.5' Maxie trailer, 5' box blade. 32hp Yanmar EX3200 tractor and 5' brush hog. Not only does it tow it like a tanka toy, I average between 19.4 and 20.9mpg on the hwy doing 75mph. The total trailer and load weight is just over 7400lbs, even more when i add my posthole digger and it still gets the same mileage and i have almost 21k miles on my truck.

Hey Ram fix the crash test results and I'll think about buying one of these diesel trucks.
-
what a stupid test , tow at the same speeds to relevant mpg comparisons, wow! a garbage fiat diesel running at near 4000 rpm, can you say blown up motor. Nathan loves dodge so much, evidently he never owned one because of they are heaps of crappola. Real Ecodisel Owner with 61,000 miles, buyer beware!

ecodiesel turd dodge junk
-
Time personally doesn't matter to me. It's how the truck handle the load

Great video, having driven all of these engine combos, which is the best up the Ike Gauntlet? I just ordered an ecodiesel, but wouldn't be opposed to the V8. I like the idea of the torque lower in the RPM range, but ultimately, I want the best performance regardless of where the power is. That said, I don't want to run up the pass at 6K RPM in the V8 either.

I purchased a 2016 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel back in March. I'd never owned a diesel of any kind. This summer I took and extended trip from Texas to Yosemite and back pulling a small 2,750 lb travel trailer. I picked the scenic routes through mountains. Spent 19 days on the road. I also had loaded the bed to about 750 lbs of gear. Of course, the tiny trailer and bed load isn't near the truck's capacity. But my other 1500 trucks, Fords and Rams, all with the big gasoline engines, would not have done so well especially at 25.5 mpg. Yes, the average for the trip was 25.5 mpg.
I can't compare the Ecodiesel with the Ecoboost but in my mind...diesel longevity over gasoline engine life expectancy is a no-brainer. Especially when thinking about the Ecoboost. Smaller gasoline engine with turbos sounds like higher temperatures and shorter life. I have no data to support that.
I wanted a 1/2 ton that could do the job of a average gasoline powered 1/2 ton but gets great fuel economy with the longevity of diesel engines.
I guess the verdict is still out on the longevity AND the reliability. Certainly the maintenance costs (oil changes cost about $130, DIY) are more than the Ecoboost.
I absolutely love my Ecodiesel.
And based on the Ike Gauntlet test, I plan to purchase a larger travel trailer in the 7000lb loaded range. -
I'm sure that the ecoboost 2.7 would have had better than 4.3 mpg if you drove it up at the same speed that the Ram averaged. It may not have achieved the 6.1 mpg but It would have been closer.

The Fast Lane Truck. 2:04 --Nathan "we are down almost 30% on power". Not with a VG turbo you are not down on power as they are well capable of compensating for the altitude difference of atmospheric pressure. You guys always bring that up when testing modern turbo engines and need to acknowledge it is not apples to apples against a naturally aspirated setup.
-
Don't tow a lot of weight with my Ecodiesel but taken 2 long trips (1000 mile one way) in it...29mpg one trip...28mpg the other, averaging 65 mph
-
Over all I think the diesel is the way to go. Torque and speed dont come in the same truck. No many of us need to go 0-60 in 5 seconds if you purpose of buying the truck was to pull. Who cares how fast it is on the track if you can't pull its own weight.
-
He says 'no loud noise' but on the vid it sounds louder than any of the others to me
-
This truck did very well on this test
-
So, the experts don't understand that a turbo compensates for altitude by increasing boost (at least up to it's maximum limit)?
-
You guys, especially Roman is pro Ford. And the Rock guard will make a difference, put it on the Ford. Anyway, not really apples to apples in comparison, gas vs diesel.
-
Most new trucks cost what my house did in 2005. I'll be duct taping my old rides for long time to come I believe
-
These guys are a JOKE there a croup that does all this at a real track and real times not this bull shit were he sits there and guesses about how fast. Also what they fail to mention is ford dodge and all gm truck do not pass the the qualified rating that they all agreed to. (((((((( TOYOTA TUNDRA IS THE ONLY TRUCK THAT PAST QUALIFCATIONS. )))))))) THAT IS A FACT. IT WON PULLING POWER AND IN 0 TO 60 & 1/4 MILE. SO FORD CHEVY GMC & DODGE ARE ((( NOT ))) IN COMPLIANCE AND MAKE UP WHAT IT CAN PULL THEY HAVE NOT PAST ONE OF THE TEST THAT THEY ALL AGREE TO. THESE ARE THE REAL FACTS... NOT THE TOTAL BS THESE GUY ARE SAYING. CHECK IT OUT FOR YOUR SELF JUST GO ON LINE AND YOU WILL FIND OUT FOR YOUR SELF.

I didn't know it could tow 13000 lbs?
