In mid-September 2013, a group of 27 Michiganders made up of farmers, agribusiness professionals and staff from Michigan State University, Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB), GreenStone Farm Credit Services (FCS) traveled to the Ukraine on an agricultural study mission co-sponsored by MFB and GreenStone FCS. The weeklong excursion exposed participants to the former Soviet republic's rich farming sector and rapidly modernizing agricultural and food production and processing capabilities.The tour gave participants an appreciation for the opportunities and challenges that Ukrainians face in transitioning to their independence along with a sense of Ukraine's potential to be a major competitor in the global marketplace.
