First-year Green and Humanitarian Engineering Scholars have the opportunity to participate in the Advanced Energy Vehicle (AEV) design-and-build project during Introduction to Engineering (a two-course sequence). The scale model AEV is a propeller-driven vehicle traveling along a suspended monorail track. Students participating in this design-and-build project have the opportunity to develop their skills within project management, teamwork, technical writing, programming, and three-dimensional software. This cornerstone project serves as one of their first experiences using engineering principles to solve a real-world problem focusing on energy management and conservation. The following video displays the Scholars AEV Showcase at which the students have the opportunity to display their projects, as well as win awards based on the design and performance of their vehicle.
