I used to work for a Surveyor / Civil Engineer. This is one of the huge "McMansion" jobs we worked on. They were blasting a rock shelf out for the roadway (based on my elevation data) because the rock was extremely hard and solid and would have taken forever with the hydraulic hammer on the excavator. If I remember correctly, this was around 600 lbs of 1.1D explosive.
